Houston Texans head coach DeMeo Ryan confirmed that wideout Nico Collins suffered a concussion during the teams’ 27-19 loss during Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks.

Ryans said of Collins: “We’ll evaluate him as the week goes on,” noting that the injury could potentially affect his status for Sunday’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

The injury occurred early in the fourth quarter, after quarterback C.J. Stroud attempted a back-shoulder throw along the sideline to Collins. Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe had tight inside coverage, forcing Collins to leap for the ball, who was unable to make the catch and fell, hitting his head hard against the turf and bouncing back up. Collins was helped to his feet by medical staff and taken to the sideline tent for evaluation before being escorted to the locker room for further tests, and was later ruled out for the rest of the game.

Stroud finished the day with 229 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception; he said of Collins: “I thought he played really well. I got to find a way to get him to touch the ball. I got to throw him a better ball. That’s just the bottom line. It’s going to be tough. He’s our best player on offense. He’s one of the best players in the league, time and time again. We also got to find ways to get him the ball in better situations. So that starts with me trying to get us in the right looks.”

If Collins is unable to play in Sunday’s home matchup against the 49ers, Houston will likely rely on rookies Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. Noel, who also handles punt return duties, had a breakout performance with four receptions for 77 yards, including three plays of 20 yards or more.
