Day 7: Armadillo Christmas Bazaar with Cilantro Boombox

Drawing on a wide spectrum of musical influences, Austin’s Cilantro Boombox crafts an uplifting, high-energy sound that hits just as hard on the dance floor as it does in the heart. What began as a casual collaboration between bassist Félix Pacheco and saxophonist Joe Woullard (of Black Joe Lewis and Ocote Soul Sounds) quickly grew into a full-fledged project with the addition of Andres Villegas (guitar, vocals) and Christopher “Zumbi” Richards (trombone, vocals). Cilantro’s explosive sound merges elements of Latin, Pan-African, brass bands, and electronic musics in a unique flavor as bold as its namesake.
